HEADLINE: GHOULSTOCK MAKES NEWSPAPER

| Ghoulstock’ garners laughs | |
| Comedy group performs for first time in almost five years | |
| By Drew Ciccotelli; Staff Writer | |
| Led by a team of Gloucester Township residents, the comedy group known as Ghoulstock formed in high school to showcase their talents in film making, live music and an ability to make people laugh.Ghoulstock includes Chris Evangelista, Zac Caruolo, Steve Oteri, Chris Galanti, Dave Bennett, Lee Collins, Ray Willis, Luke Willis, Jess Everly and Emily Ambash.
As years passed, the team began holding a number of live performances in various locations around South Jersey. Their last attempt, which was to be held at the Harwin Theater, in Mt Ephraim, around three years ago, was shut down due to fire code violations, on the night they were set to perform. Since that time, the Harwin has been removed and replaced with a Walgreens – leaving even fewer places for the group to perform. In a chance encounter years later, the group was contacted by theater owner Jason Taguire, who was looking for local talent to feature at the newly renovated venue. At first, Taguire had an idea that the location could be used as a place where his band could play but eventually decided to expand that idea into other forms of entertainment. “This is a venue unlike anywhere else in the area,” Taguire said of the Loft in Audobon. “At first it was just offices full of desks and chairs; now, two months later it’s a place where artists can come to show off their work and perform locally for a live audience. It is my hope that we can eventually establish this place as South Jersey’s little art center.” With only a month to prepare, the team of 10 moved quickly to come up with ideas on what to do for their first performance in nearly five years. In that time they rehearsed a number of ways they could present their material. Before the show on Jan. 2, anticipation ran high for Oteri, whose idea of humor turned to laughs once the show began. “This was a culmination of everything that our group represents, for us a rebirth of fun,” Oteri said. “It’s like the fun-pocalypse is coming and we’re the horsemen.” With almost no advertising, except through word of month and messages on face book, the show drew a crowd that sold out the venue for the first time since its opening a month ago. “For us, this was a learning experience – a test to see what we could really do,” said Galanti. “This was just something that felt refreshing, felt different in an area that has little to offer our generation.” This was the first time that Ghoulstock was represented live in the way it was that night. “This was one of my top 10 favorite things I’ve ever done,” Galanti said. “To hear people laughing, genuinely laughing out loud at what we’re doing and saying is indescribable for me.” Taguire plans to frequently feature future shows with the members of Ghoulstock at the Loft over the next few months. The Loft is located at 100 Merchant Ave. in Audubon. For more information on upcoming events, visit the Web site at www.auctionhouseevents.com.” |
